What is the purpose of ASID?
ASID advances the profession and communicates the impact of interior design to enhance the human experience. Our volunteer leaders believe it. Our staff team delivers on it. Members of the interior design community provide us with the content to communicate the message to the broader public.
What is Interior Design Certification?
California certification is administered by the California Council for Interior Design Certification, which allows for limited permitting abilities. Unlike some, it allows registered interior designers to sign construction documents permitting nonstructural interior work.
How do I use ASID?
Appellation and Personal Logo Usage Guidelines List ASID first in cases of multiple appellations (Ex. John Doe, ASID, LEED AP). The membership designations must be spelled out completely. (Note: “of the American Society of Interior Designers” may be substituted for “ASID”).

Do Interior Designers need a degree?
Interior designers need at least an associate degree to be registered. Pursuing a degree teaches them fundamentals about construction, design theory and history, communication and business. Designers can also learn a variety of trade tools, such as CAD, independently through online courses.
Can I be an interior designer without a degree?
Technically, you do not need a degree to become an interior decorator. However, knowledge never hurt anyone. Interior decorating degrees are available at various levels, and some certification programs take very little time.
